When is invasion of your internet privacy an outrageous violation of your personal liberties that chills you to your very bones and when is it, yawn, well….whateve?
Let me tell you.
When Liberal governments propose internet legislation…meh… our pals at Anonymous are more interested in ripping off MasterCard, and other much cooler stuff. Justin Trudeau does not find it “disgusting.” And when the United Nations makes plans to trample all over your internet privacy…well, you know, what can you do?
But should a, gasp…snicker…chortle, one of those, hold your nose and say it sneeringly, conservatives introduces such legislation it is VERY VERY VERY BAD. It is so bad that we must celebrate as a family is threatened, maliciously retweet divorce details and rail against Big Brother.
It is charming, I must admit, to suddenly have so much company at the monthly Libertarian Strawberry Social. WELCOME TO CONCERN ABOUT YOUR LIBERTY! Have a berry. Glad to have you. But as I listen more, I wonder about the selective outrage. It is very, very curious.
A great take on the whole sordid affair including the pretty much identical Liberal bill, see Coyne: http://www.ottawacitizen.com/news/Coyne+Internet+surveillance+debate+falls+victim+white+rhetoric/6181658/story.html

Liberty, freedom, privacy…these are indeed worth fighting for. Let’s just be sure we bring that message to all snoops, spies and warrantless “inspectors” equally…and not just use civil liberties to punish our favourite enemies when they look vulnerable.
And, Anonymous, my dears, please use your awesome skills and talents to assist law enforcement in stopping the online sexual abuse of children. That would be decent and honourable. And it is such a hard thing to stop, we really do need your help.

Vic deserves whatever he gets for his insulting and inept introduction of C-30, and the CPC deserves the massive hit they’re going to take for introducing this misleadingly labelled Bill.
You’d think an experienced gov’t would know better than to re-introduce legislation that Canadians already rejected once in the form of the “Investigative Powers for the 21st Century”. To do so, while insulting the electorate, has done irreparable damage to the CPC brand.
If this Bill isn’t abandoned, I’m predicting a CPC minority next time.
If they’re lucky.
Really? Do you really mean that no punishment is too severe for the crime of ineptitude and being insulting? He deserves “whatever”? Is that your position? I rather agree that his communication strategy left a lot to be desired. In fact, it is an excellent case study in what not to do. But anything goes now? His crimes are so egregious that no punishment suffices? Interesting, and perhaps a wee bit extreme, no?
you have to remember that whenever a socialist UN or liberal party does the exact same thing they actually have “good intentions” like when they want to tackle gang violence in the big city they target Uncle Jed and his sport rifle, but its ok because they have good intentions or when they want to atone for something that someone in the past did to someone else they come up with a scam to discriminate against white males, but again its ok because they have good intentions, so when a liberal does something blatantly wrong or outright evil or discriminatory its fine because they mean well?

I totally agree. For what it’s worth though, this bill has (or should I say “had”) a much higher chance of becoming law since the Conservatives have a majority. That doesn’t fully explain the discrepancy in reaction, but I think it contributed since the threat was so much more imminent.
Also, some anons were trying to do exactly what you are hoping for, although they seem to have stopped last November:

Wow, MJ. Thank you for that info and the link re Anons.
